There hasn't been a lot of stuff done, just small changes.
Probably not going to be any big changes for a while.

Is there a thread/link where we can see all of the changes, even minor? Like patch notes, if you will.

I'm curious, haven't played in several months and looking to hop back on soon.

No, all changes are pretty much just on the Terms of Service screen when you start up the game.
There have only been a handful of small changes, really just bugfixes.

You've emulated a server in Java, but I'm assuming that map data is stored in the updates to the game data right?

Also on how all of MGO2R works;

Are you just using old game data and tweaking it to let people log in, while emulating the server in Java? Or is there more at play here?

Yes, all of that stuff is within the game data. The server doesn't send anything like that over. And yes, your idea of what's going on is correct.

Sounds like another massive hurdle to overcome. Have you reached out to any former MGO devs on LinkedIn to see if you can get your hands on dev tools or something along those lines? I reached out to some dude who worked on MGO3 last night, I'll let you know if something comes out of it.

No I haven't, but it's unlikely you'd get any of that very technical information out of someone 12 years later.
MGO3 is completely different, made by a different studio. They're nice guys, but most, if not all of them, won't know anything about MGS4/MGO2.
It just takes time to research the files and come up with tools. It's very possible, we've done some work already. But it's all about making it easier and adding more possibilities first.

Hats off to you guys. I haven’t played MGO2 since it was taken down. To be able to basically play it with nothing more than downloading a file to a USB stick is amazing.
