Noob ps3 firmware question

Postby Charge » Tue Jun 30, 2015 7:25 am

Sorry if this has been answered ad nauseum, but I need to know!
Ive just been to a shop, and found an 80gb fat ps3 with a serial number that matches up with the list of pre3.55 models, (CECHJ) but when the guy turned it on, it had 4.70 firmware.
My question is, will restoring the ps3, or restoring factory default will revert it back to pre3.55 or not?
I don't want to buy it to find out its useless to me.

Fats just have a higher failure rate, but honestly it just depends on the PS3 itself. I got my Fat and its been working fine since 2012 ish.

Also, no, Restore Factory Settings will not downgrade the PS3. You will have to send it off to someone else or do the actual downgrade process yourself.

so, if it was ever updated, then it cannot go back to its original firmware?

Nope needs to be flashed back to 3.55 with a hardware flasher.

so, would this not work, if the ps3 hasn't been downgraded with a flasher previously?
