How To use the MGS4 25th Anniversary Edition for MGO
(Original Tutorial)

Notes:
- NEW Video Tutorial Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pqcscRNXzM
- Special thanks to Jayveer for telling me how to add the MGO option back to the main menu.
- Tutorial and idea created by Switcheroo
- My Skype, if you need help: tonybarzini
- This detailed guide will show you how to correctly modify the MGS4 25th Anniversary edition to be used with MGO.
- You must already have Custom Firmware installed on your PS3. (experience recommended)
- You must already have MultiMan installed on your PS3. (experience recommended but not completely needed)
-This only works if you install MGS4 25th Anniversary Edition to the HDD.
-The update on the disc may attempt to install OFW version 4.20 in order to play it. Do not install it. Do not run the disc version. Start MultiMan and only copy the game to the HDD through MultiMan and delete the PS3UPDAT.PUP from the backed up version like shown in this tutorial, then remove the disc.

- Tested using EU version of MGS4 25th Anniversary Edition, not tested using NA or JPN editions.
- You follow this tutorial at your own risk, I'm not liable if you attempt this and fail.
- Mods/Admins please sticky this where appropriate.

PC Steps

1) Download PS3_GAME from here:

2) Extract folder contents to USB stick

(Do not just put the .rar or extracted folder on the USB stick. Just put "PS3_GAME" folder in the main directory.)

3) Insert USB stick into PS3

PS3 Steps

1) Insert BUT DO NOT START METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS (25th Anniversary Edition)
(There is an update for 4.20 on the disc, you don't want that!!!!)

2) Start Multiman

Copy MGS4 25th Anniversary Edition to the HDD. (Copying will take more than an hour)

    To copy:

-Hover over MGS4 and press Triangle and go up to "Copy"
(Copying will take more than an hour)

Next, Scroll left over to multiMAN and select File Manager / mmOS
Double X Click into PS3 Root on the multiMAN Desktop
    Double X Click into /dev_hdd0/
    Double X Click into /GAMES/
Double X Click into /BLES00246-[METAL GEAR SOLID 4GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS 25th Anniversary]/
    Double X Click into /PS3_UPDATE/
Highlight PS3UPDAT.PUP with X and Press Circle
    Choose to "DELETE"
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click into /PS3_GAME/
Highlight PARAM.SFO with X and Press Circle
    Choose to "DELETE"
    Double X Click into /USRDIR/
Highlight EBOOT.BIN with X and Press Circle
    Choose to "DELETE"
    Double X Click /mgs/
Highlight MGS4.SELF, mgs4.mself and /stage/ with X and Press Circle
    Choose to "DELETE"
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click /dev_usb000/
Highlight PS3_GAME with X and Press Circle
    Choose to "COPY"
    Double X Click " .. " to go back a directory
    Double X Click into /dev_hdd0/
    Double X Click into /GAMES/
    Double X Click into /BLES00246-[25th Anniversary Edition]/
Press Circle and select Paste (give it some time to copy the files...) Say YES to overwriting.
Once complete, Double X Click Games from the multiMAN Desktop

Scroll until you find the MGS4 installed on your HDD. (You may remove the MGS4 disc)
Hover over it and press Triangle and go down to "Game Settings"
Press X to go into "Game Settings"
    Press Left on the D-Pad
Highlight DIRECT BOOT, Press [b]X so the bubble is filled
Highlight BD MIRROR, Press [b]X so the bubble is filled
Highlight INTERNAL, Press [b]X so the bubble is filled
Press RIGHT on the D-Pad so you're back to the list.
    Scroll until you find PERMISSIONS
Hover over it and press X
    Restart your PS3.

You may now boot the game through MultiMan and use it as if it were the 2008 release version of MGS4, installed on the HDD.

Final Notes:
- You will still have to install the usual MGS4 and MGO Game Data.
- You will still have to replace the MGO2.SELF in the /o/ file of the installed MGO Game Data (and possible v1.36 files as well), use any other tutorial for getting set up to do this.
- You will have to boot MGS4 through MultiMan by pressing X over it to start it up each time.
-The update on the disc may attempt to install OFW version 4.20 in order to play it. Do not install it. Do not run the disc version. Start MultiMan and only copy the game to the HDD through MultiMan and delete the PS3UPDAT.PUP from the backed up version like shown in this tutorial, & then remove the disc.

Have a nice day.

Uhh this is very dangerous, alot of ppl will update to OFW I think.
This merge method is so cool. :D So, I think this "run MGO from HDD" thing works with the original 2008' MGS4 disc, right? Just I don't need to delete anything except the update file (already done). Btw, good tut.

To ppl, who download MGO files from the link above: After started the downloading process close myairbridge.com window in the browser, so your download become more faster.

Yeah but I've put 3 or 4 warnings in my tutorial(s). It shouldn't prompt you to update if you're using a CFW after 4.20, it's only a problem for people like me who still use 3.55.
I run both EU and NA versions of MGS4 from the HDD without problems. You will have to install the Game Data first from the disc before you can copy the game to the HDD though. & For some reason NA initially wouldn't copy over for the longest time though because it would get stuck on a file every time, but EU didn't have any problems.

No, the whole game is about 30gb. This is 3.5gb.

Hey there, this guide is only for patching the MGS4 25th anniversary edition to work like 2008 MGS4. You still must follow this tutorial (https://savemgo.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=859) after you have completed this one.

You could message me on Skype, PM me or post here, the former two options are more preferred though so our conversation doesn't bury the important information.

This is just for people who want to patch the 25th anniversary edition to work like 2008 MGS4, it's not a tutorial for getting on MGO2R. We have some for that.

Unfortunately no, not at this time, I'll try to find a better site to upload the files to though.
