CEX 2 DEX Tutorial for REBUG CFW

Postby wtfareuthinking1 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 8:38 pm

The first thing you have to do is dump your eid root key.

This package/tutorial is for 3.55 CFW
http://www.ps3news.com/ps3-hacks-jailbreak/ps3-eeid-rkdumper-from-gameos-pkg-by-flat-z-is-now-available/
This package/tutorial is for 4.50 CFW
http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/eid-root-key-dumper-4-50-cfw-developer-flatz-3885/

After you have your eid root key update to the version you want, however it has to be a REX edition. (REBUG REX CFW 4.30, 4.46 etc)

The next thing you need to do is dump your flash.
Rebug's tool box is perfect for doing this.
Choose this option,

Image
You can dump it to your thumb drive or straight to your hard drive.
(Then Ftp it to your pc or plug you thumb drive into your pc).

Now you should have these two files on your PC.
(Dont worry if your flash is named differently.)

Image

Drag and drop these two file's into the folder included at the bottom of this post.
It should look like this,

Image
Remember the extension from your flash dump,
as you can see mine is .NORBIN, meaning my PS3 has Nor flash.

If your PS3 has NOR make sure the file size is 16mb
If your PS3 has NAND make sure the file size is 239mb or 256mb

Now lets rename the two file's.
Rename eid_root_key to eid_root_key.bin
Rename your flash dump to flashCEX.bin

Now your file's should look like this,

Image

Now we are ready to start the program.
Since my dump was NOR I simply select the NOR radio button in the program.
Image

Now we can press the Convert button.
When it complete's it should look like this,

Image

The next step we need to do is switch your PS3 from CEX to DEX.

Copy the two files we created from the folder and put them on your thumb drive.
Also keep a copy of these files somewhere on your pc in case you ever
want to switch back to CEX.

Image
Should be on your thumb drive.

Plug your thumb drive into the USB slot closest to your disk drive on your PS3.
Now start the Rebug tool box again and goto the CEX/DEX drop down menu, Should look like this

Image

Choose the Rewrite Target ID in flash option first,
Image
After you select it you will get two warnings about flashing.
After this completes it will ask you to shutdown your ps3
"DO NOT SHUTDOWN YET!".

Next we need to swap the lv2 Kernel,

Image
Once it completes you can now restart your ps3.

Lastly you can open the Rebug toolbox one more time and goto the option, System Information.

Image

Tada,
Lvl2 Kernel should now read DEX
Target Type should also read DEX

Any question's just ask...

If I've OFW 3.55 (without downgrade), what CFW 3.55 recommend me for dump my eid root key?

This is my project:

OFW 3.55 > CFW 3.55 > Eid root key > CFW Rebug 4.46 > CEX to DEX

Is it right?

Seems fine. Just make sure you don't have a disc in when you are installing new firmware and install 3.55 CFW firmware two times for the SYSCON hashes.

Yes.
Yes, install it and run once it to enable the QA flag. Check if it's on by looking at this. After that, I suggest you delete it so you don't disable it accidentally.

Still no conformation as to if we will be required to have DEX PS3's once MGO2 is back online?

DEX probably won't be required.

From the locked dev thread.
Fix the patches/signing issue with CEX CFW. --- I think I have fixed this, I will update when 100% sure.

I have been too lazy to switch my PS3 back to CEX to test, but I am pretty confident I have fixed the issue.

This is mostly associated with bypassing the PSN sign in requirement right? I'm probably wrong on this one.

Just signing the executable.
